The Death Trilogy
The “Death Trilogy” is a loose thematic grouping of films by Gus Van Sant, consisting of Gerry (2002), Elephant (2003), and Last Days (2005). While not connected through a continuous narrative, the three films are linked by their minimalist style and their contemplation of death, often unfolding in real time or near-real time and focusing on characters in liminal states, where time, space, and action are reduced to their bare essentials.
